Ageless Arms: how to tone your upper body after 50

Updated: Apr 6, 2023

Flabby arms can be a source of frustration for many women, particularly as they age and hormone levels begin to shift. However, it is possible to tone and strengthen the arms at any age with the right exercises and dedication. Here are some tips for toning flabby arms for women in their 50s:

Focus on strength training

Resistance exercises, such as modified push-ups, tricep extensions, and bicep curls, can help to build and tone muscle in the arms. Using weights or resistance bands can increase the intensity of these exercises and provide additional benefits. You can check out some of my favorite workouts here:

Incorporate cardiovascular exercise

Cardio exercises, such as walking, jogging, or cycling, can help to burn calories and improve overall health. These types of exercises can also help to tone the arms by increasing blood flow and promoting muscle development.

Try yoga or Pilates

These types of exercises can help to strengthen and tone the arms, as well as improve flexibility and balance. Many yoga and Pilates poses specifically target the arms, making them an effective option for toning. If you are new to pilates - i highly recommend joining my beginners pilates program.

Get enough protein

Protein is essential for muscle development and repair. Incorporating protein-rich foods, such as lean meats, beans, and nuts, into the diet can help to support muscle growth and recovery.

Stay hydrated

Proper hydration is essential for overall health and can also help to support muscle development. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day to stay hydrated and support muscle tone.

Consult with a healthcare provider

It's important to consult with a healthcare provider before starting any new exercise routine, especially if you have any underlying health conditions or concerns. A healthcare provider can provide guidance and recommendations for an appropriate exercise plan.

While toning your arms may take time and dedication, it is possible to make progress with the right exercises and lifestyle habits. By focusing on strength training, incorporating cardio, and maintaining a healthy diet and hydration levels - I am sure that you can reach your desired results.
